Paywall doesn't bother me. I use Firefox and a couple of ad blockers. Chron isn't serious about it like NYT or WSJ.

As for the problem, who's the Mensa Master who spec'd actual glass in the first place? Bus shelters have used plastic panels of one kind or another since the Jurassic, precisely because of vandalism. They're a little harder to clean, and are subject to different kinds of attacks, but they don't Just Break very easily.

If The City still wants to make it stupidly expensive, they *could* require that the plastic be produced from CO2 drawn out of the air...
