I'm not sure where the term "Crud" came from, but it was used on the SP by fans and I believe crews to refer to the SP SW1500s as in, "Oh crud, here's another."

I do not believe it was derogatory towards the engines, which were very well liked, but rather more of a statement that man there were a lot of them.
