The city understands perfectly what the PRESENT station's function is: a public event space.
The Amtrak station itself takes up a very small amount of space, essentially negligible in comparison to the size of the building. All it needs is enough space for ticket sales, baggage handling, and a little seating for people waiting for the 1 SW Chief and 2 River Runner round trips a day. Amshack though probably not as ridiculous as the bus shelter at Denair or what looked like a repurposed signal equipment shelter at Madera.
