I was fortunate to have been on that excursion and remember seeing the 19 highball out of Mt. Shasta on the SP mainline heading for Montague. I was surprised that the SP gave permission for this to happen. It was getting dark and her headlight was lighting the way. I also had a most memorable experience of a cab ride on 25 from Mt. Shasta to McCloud. There is really something magic riding in the cab of a steam locomotive at night. The world seems to shrink into a capsule that consists only of the sights, sounds and smells of the immediate surroundings. One of my most treasured experiences.
