SP was walking away from the Salinas Valley perishable business long before UP came on the scene. Railroads seem to have trouble going after the business. CSX said they were going to go after the I-95 truck traffic when they could offer seemless service from MA to FL. They dropoed the ball on that one. Truck traffic on I-95 has never been busier. Don't expect anything earth-shattering with the CP-KCS merger.
