The CA legislature, and so far the Feds, had this conversation last year when they told the runaway money train they had to finish the bloated gold plated fiasco from Chowchilla to Wasco, for the previous $25 billion budget that had already doubled in price...
The CAHSRA rewarded that request, either because CAHSRA is always lying always or incompetent (both???) and last month announced that they were yet another $10 billion over budget for a whopping $35 billion to complete the CAHSRA's bloated gold plated segment from Wasco to Chowhilla...
I am personally glad that the FRA has been ignoring the CAHSRA fiasco, in line with the direction of CA's own Legislature, and is instead focusing some of the new rail funding on CA projects we actually "need" like the Del Mar Bluff bypass tunnel. Funding also looks like it is going to ACE for the "Plan B" connection to the CAHSRA's "stranded whale" via Tracy, Modesto, Merced, to hook up at Chowchilla.
This kind of dubious cheerleading for the CAHSRA fiasco doesn't seem to be fixing any of the ever present underlying incompetence at the dysfunctional CAHSRA.
And, of course, I just want to remind all CAHSRA contactors, that use of even State funds, which used for project lobbying like this oped, are not eligible for use as match against Federal project funds, as that is an illegal use of Federal matching funds.
