Global One was originally called Wood St. & was a produce yard on the CNW. Adjacent was the B&O’s Rodney St. Yard & Roundhouse serving their Grand Central Station. After it closed the CNW eventually bought the property & combined it with Wood St. to build Global One, which was focused on traffic originating in downtown.

As the Container business grew, nearby Canal St. Became the Piggyback back facility serving mostly downtown UPS traffic. & Global One handled the doublestack traffic. G1’s biggest issue is it’s space restricted. The BNSF own their own (now unused) yard next door, but isn’t interested in selling.

Global One has outlived its usefulness, not to mention many truckers don’t like coming to that area anymore. Most of the warehousing is in the Chicago Suburbs anyway, so Global Two is better located for the current environment.
