Re: ...is it LAUPT or "union station, it's original name is Passenger Terminal, it has become a Station, and may some day run through

Nitpick: LAUS, yes, is a "station" somewhere between LA and Goleta ... at one end. It's also a "station" somewhere between San Diego and San Luis Obispo, for the run-through trains on the Surfliner. It's also a "terminal" for long-distance Amtrak trains, around 1/2 of the Surfliner trains from San Diego, and most of the Metrolink trains.
Though the Metrolinks can be a grey area: like some bus lines, a physical train can change numbers at the station and go back out again, even with the same crew, as something else. Not sure if they still do it (I haven't been there to use the service since Before Covid), but there used to be some convenient afternoon trippers on the Ventura line that would come out of the yard to LAUS, then out to Burbank Airport, then back to LAUS to become something on the San Bernardino line (according to a conductor I spoke with on one such trip to the airport that I used). I don't think the run-through track would change that kind of a turn much, but if it were going back out on the OC line it would.
As for the run-through, what IS happening with that? It's been off again on again for at least a couple of decades now. Is it really off again, or is somebody actually still working on it as Other Duties?
