U.P. also brings unit grain trains for export into Port of Kalama, on the Columbia River between Portland,OR., and Longview,WA. These trains were using CP run thru power for quite a while; however not so much lately. The power lays over in Kalama while the cars are unloaded. ( BNSF also serves the same place. )
In the Seattle area U.P. has locals based in Fife, Kent, and Seattle,WA. ( Maybe Centralia too ? ) The Kent local was using a patched Espee GP-60 recently. Argo Yard in Seattle is as noted mostly Intermodal, however it is not really that big; all TOFC / COFC trains have to be doubled or tripled over. U.P. has a rather obscure local out of Argo Yard that works along East Marginal Way, accessed off the tail of the wye at Argo " Shop ". This job works mostly nights due to the heavy roadway traffic in the area during the day. This job did have a SP Caboose set up as a shoving platform, with a horn & spotlight welded to the roof. It disappeared recently; perhaps the victim of a FRA visit ??? Also a S/B garbage train originates daily out of Argo; it will pick up in Centralia and maybe also Tacoma.
