Just a rivit counter here, but it is not a battery box below the cab, it is the air brake
equipment access door. Battery boxes are not located directly below the cab to keep battery
gases from entering the cab area. Much of the air brake equipment is actually located below
the cab includes the independent actuation system, train line maintaining valves. Some units
also have event recorder equipment under the cab.
