When I hired in at IBM in 1980, the 3277, 3276 and 3278 terminals were EVERYWHERE, not just at the railroads. SP and Santa Fe were large users of the units, along with the 3287 dot matrix printers. One of my accounts was the City of Industry SP yard. I found I had to go onsite once a month and vacuum out the printers just to keep them running (the office at the top of the hump was a very dirty environment and wasn't sealed up against the elements!). I remember, once I moved to Bakersfield, getting a call from the SP on a printer in Edison. When I called the SP to find out WHERE in Edison it was, I was told to go the ugliest building in town. Well, that was true, no problems finding the building. It burned down about 15 years ago, if I remember correctly, no great loss as the computer and printer had been removed years before.
