Metro Chair Karen Bass seems to be listening...
It's nice having someone who listens to all of those complaints about poor MTA service and s frequencies and security, and actually does something about it..
Long waits for transit makes people three times less likely to choose transit for even short trips, because the wait times that can be 3 or 3 times longer than the travel times... Because just those long wait times can make that "real" trip time 3 to 4 times longer on transit... Time is valuable, so folks don;t like to waste it needlessly...
Long waits and transfers are the biggest singe factor in causing people "not" to use transit, and after years of senseless MTA cutbacks, combined with lousy security, MTA has lost nearly 500,000 daily riders since 2014... Further massive bus and rail service cutbacks during Covid only made it worse, when riderhsip plunged to just 700,000 daily trips...
Finally, with leadership that actually listens, MTA is restoring previous service levels that were cutback during Covid, at least on the rail lines as of December 10, 2023...

Crime statistics are also purportedly way down on Metro in the second half of 2023, after increasing since 2014, and a big "surge" (16%-25% depending on source) in crime on MTA during Covid. This is apparently due to a lot more cops visible in stations and on trains, and from the new station "Ambassadors", who have reclaimed a number of stations from transients, by having "eyes" on the system to assist the police in identifying problem locations and perpertrators. Although the second half crime statisitics do not appear to be available on-line, as yet.
