Some Interesting Stuff from TRB

Just some random stuff that looked interesting in the monthly blast from Transportation Research Board.

TRNews Q4/2023: all road stuff, but the article about geofoam goes into more details about how CO used it. Probably *not* something that will help at San Clemente, but where embankments cross weak land like bay muds it might be useful. Essentially floats the (road, track, whatever) on the mud. CO doesn't need much seismic design, but the concept has been used in CA and works (sawdust-core road embankment in Watsonville, for instance). Short article starts on p. 37 of the PDF.
