When METRA was disposing of their original coaches A proposal was made for the UP to buy a few for Crew Transport purposes. They would have needed an independent power source, bit that want't too difficult as there was plenty of room.

UP didn't want to spend the money to buy of maintain them. Mind you they originally sold for about $10K
