There is not enough consistent M-F freight traffic between Reno-Sparks-CarsonCity and the LA Basin to warrant the major transportation entities (USPS, UPS, FedEx) establishing a direct regular schedule between them.

Going via Sacramento is only about 40 miles longer and avoids the mostly 2-lane US 395 running on the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range between Carson City and Inyokern.

US 395 is not exactly truck-friendly between Bishop and Topaz Lake due to the terrain.
