The fact that nearly 49% of annual pedestrian fatalities are legally under the influence of alcohol at their time of death means that we must completely rebuild our roadways to make it safer to walk while drunk...

Evil Killer Roads Murder Poor Innocent Pedestrians.

Distracted driving isn't the real cause either, so quit trying to blame the drivers for looking at their devices while driving instead of the road... Evil cars and bad roads are the only reason for pedestrians to needlessly die on our roads and subway tracks... Evil trains and evil cars are all part of the vast evil conspiracy by big oil to murder these poor innocent pedestrians...

Meanwhile, for those who like to see the "long term" situation, instead of "cherry picked" bits used to make case on selective data points... Here's the last 30 years of declines, then rising pedestrian deaths increasingly from "distracted" driving, and from "distracted" walking...
