Disappeared after Portola? Hardly. I rode the Winnemucca Subdivision portion of the trip and there were plenty of people chasing and photographing the train (where there was road access). Small crowds met the train at Gerlach and Winnemucca. The population in those towns is small. I've posted photos and have viewed photos from that trip and know of more to appear.

Ogden ought to attract a good crowd during the layover there.
