Here is some additional information about the sale. While the units are certainly serviceable, the grant process requires that they be "disabled." I assume that means sprinkling salt on the welded engine block and then drilling a hole through the crankshaft or something. One would think a more fiscally-responsible approach would be to offer them for sale along with spare parts, etc.

DETAILS: The used Caltrain EMD F40PH-2 Locomotives will be available for sale around October 2024. Locomotive engine must be disabled per a state grant funding agreement.
