More than $250 million in seismic reinforcements needed. Track replacement needed, they claim. What is wrong with the track? Is it only used by Amtrak trains now?

Will the building be closed and condemned if it is unsafe?

My belief is, the only way anyone will acquire this white elephant is if the city offers them a package deal that includes other valuable real estate. Buyer gets a bargain on other property, but owning the train station goes with the deal.

Quote:
Portland’s Union Station needs more than $250 million in upgrades, complicating Prosper Portland’s push to sell the station to a buyer who would keep it running.
...
The station needs significant improvements, including an expensive seismic retrofit and track replacement. The building, which was completed in 1896, was constructed of unreinforced masonry.
...
The $250 million renovation cost estimate is likely a low figure. It’s based on a 30 percent design stage.
