Meanwhile, more reasons that LA doesn't seem to be all that ready for 2028....

How much of this would go to rail systems or services is unclear.

But now we have all of this hoping and wishing that someone will help LA Metro to buy double the number of buses (that we don't seem to have the funds to actually operate, having lost over a hundred and fifty million annual riders (without Covid), and cutting services massively for both bus and rail????) and hoping to find money, sounds a bit unprepared to me.

Of course, since many of these are to be electric battery powered buses, with insufficient range to operate all day, the doubling of the bus fleet just means a doubling of fleet costs, not a doubling of actual services to actual and/or potential riders, right?

Trying to leverage the SOFI fiasco into political contracts justified in the name of the sacred "Olympics" just cost LA Metro's region $2 billion in lost Federal funding, that could have been used to speed up projects like the LAUS run-through tracks, or the SE Gateway (UP Harbor/WSAB alignment) LRT project.

And this El Segundo Advertiser (former known as the LA Times) article just exudes "readiness" for the 2028 Olympics:

LA Times Story on LA Metro Olympics funding requests

So, just how will this request for a spare $3.2 billion for LA "fly" in DC these days?

As the Zen Master likes to say: "We'll see...."
