While CN and V&S are hailing this as a way to preserve service, that is simply a smoke screen. V&S Railway is owned by A&K Rail Materials. I give these lines 2 to 5 years and they will be gone. Look at the history of V&S, including an attempt to purchase the TP&W in Illinois from RailAmerica to abandon. Fortunately, the STB caught on and made RA buy it back. They are famous for running off customers by surcharges and various other means. This is a true injustice that hopefully people in the State of Mississippi rise up to oppose this sale for what it really is. CN gains by getting rid of lines they knew would be politically tough to accomplish and makes a tidy sum off the sale.
