Steam Power on MUNI's F-line

Well....sorta. Durings its visit to San Francisco in 1971/72, owner Alan Pegler operated his former LNER 4-6-2 #4472 on the track of the State Belt Railroad, seen here on Jefferson nearing Aquatic Park. With typical NIMBY response, the residents of Telegraph Hill and vicinity did their best to close it down and the operation soon ended. Another factor in the failure here was the requirement Pegler had to pay a full State Belt Crew, two of whom are riding the footboards.
