I also hope Fred was recognized at the ceremony. Even though he would have denied it and say it was the volunteers, if it wasn't for him the 6 trolleys that were restored for downtown would not have been completed. He was the one that kept the volunteers going. I once ran into someone who knew him in Connecticut. He told me he was known in Connecticut as "fantasy Fred". From knowing him and working with him in San Jose I understand his nick name. He was always coming up with these far out ideas and it always surprised me how many of these fantasies came true because he made them come true. One case was that big pile of rusting metal that was one time a steam tractor that was at the museum. Because of his fantasy, it was restored to running condition. By the way, the trolley barn at the Historical Museum is named after him.
