Amtrak - Train # vs. Loco #
While patiently waiting for the shot below to "come together", I was once again made aware of the confusing nature of Amtrak Cascades train numbers and the same number of the occasional substitute P32's.
Dispatch was calling for Amtrak 509 (sb Cascades), while nb 516 with AMTK 509 on the point was calling out signals using the loco number.
How is it that this hasn't lead to some sort of accident? Even in our little Ol'' model railroad in Tacoma, we've taken steps to minimize confusion by not using a locomotive with the same number as a passenger train. That did lead once to a head-on collision, fortunately there were only scale casualties.
Here's AMTK 505 with Cascades 509 in tow, along with a grain train and a sporty looking Mt. Rainier.
