Been living up in the PNW for going on 5 years now, within an hours drive of the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad and it's Baldwin 2-8-2. Until this past weekend, I'd not taken the time to photograph it (riding is next). Thanks to a friend providing a tour of the highlights, I was able to get some pretty decent photos.
My son and I followed it around for all three trips, the last one of the day being the longest. In among the dense vegetation on the way back, we lost the train. We when doubled back and found it again, it was moving slower than before. Much to my surprise, I found that the reason was some maintenance of way. Tree trimming actually. A couple of crew members were atop the tender, hacking away at the low hanging branches.
So, see what it's like, deep in the jungles of western Washington, to keep the vegetation at bay when your brush cutting equipment amounts to a couple of machetes.
