The Seattle Lake Shore and Eastern built southwest out of Spokane to Medical Lake before turning west. The line was built west to a point near Bluestem when money ran low. It was decided to build north into Davenport to collect some money the citizenry was offering if the railroad came to town. The SLS&E never built any further west (or east from their lines west of the Cascades). NP acquired the SLS&E and ripped up the tracks from Spokane to Eleanor. When GN built west, they used part of the SLS&E grade to exit Spokane to the west, but that section was abandoned in favor of the Fort Wright Trestle. Espanola was a GN station, but the GN crossed the SLS&E about a 1000' west of the current west switch of Espanola Siding. The grade is readily visible on Google Earth, and even on the ground if you know where to look.
