....is sitting forlorn, graffitied and vandalized on a dormant industrial spur in North Sacramento. It appears to be a former derrick or boom car painted the usual SPMW orange. No boom or derrick of course, but the supports are still there along with the box compartment on the end.

Spur in question runs off the Roseville/Elvas UP mainline just on the north side of the newly rebuilt American River Bridge. It leads down a steep gradient and a sharp turn to the west past a Costco parking lot then to a light industrial area where (I believe) no one uses it. Theres a small 3 track yard and this car is sitting on one. Rails are heavily rusted over. Crossing signals are still in place, and appear to be working since the adjacent equipment boxes still have lit white lights on top.

Anyone know the story behind this car and why its been left behind in a veritable no-mans land?
