The reason the east end of the Farwell siding is called "The Spot" by the NCRY crews is in reference to the bar and private picknic area that used to be across the canyon. When we rebuilt the railroad "The Spot" bar next to hwy 84 was a popular stop for bikers. While we were rebuilding track through there we would often see people partying or relaxing next to the creek while we were working our butts off. Not long after the railroad was complete the water district bought The Spot, closed it and tore it down. Now you can hardly tell there was ever anything there.
