Dan Hauser, a former assemblyman, Arcata politician, and city manager, announced Tuesday his intention to run for the District 3 seat on the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District Commission.
Hauser said in a statement that if he were on the commission his goal would be to protect the bay as well as create jobs.
”I will research all environmental and economic facts when looking at the best option for living wage jobs. I firmly believe that we must continue to explore the option of creating a world-class green port that will set an example for smaller ports around the world,” he said.
According to a press release, Hauser has held many elected and appointed offices over the past 35 years, including 14 years in the state Assembly, eight years on the Arcata City Council with four years as mayor, as well as another five years as Arcata's city manager.
Hauser said he played a leadership role in the establishment of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Refuge, and he hopes to use his experience to help revitalize the harbor and create a “green port” that will provide living wage jobs, and pursue the expansion of trails around Humboldt Bay.
”Establishing trails around our bay will lead people on new adventures and allow them to explore the beauty around them while fostering an opportunity to learn about and enjoy many of the wetlands habitats that have been acquired by public agencies in recent years,” he said. “It's an excellent way to view our natural resources while improving our health.”
