...and #42 was rebuilt, using parts from one or both of the other locos, IIRC. And both locos probably will require a major rebuild or overhaul; sure, the traction motors and brake valves can be replaced, but does the site mention whether they both need other work to become operational again? And if not, then why are they being offered at scrap value instead of at a higher price? I'm not saying that they can't be purchased and rebuilt or won't be; the real question is whether anyone outside of a railroad museum or historical/preservation organization would be willing to, especially if the EPA and states like California are placing pressure on commercial operators to make older locomotives comply with emmissions standards. Granted, older locomotives may not be the biggest source of vehicle-produced air pollution, but its a helluva lot easier politically to make the railroads and industrial operators buy new locomotives or install pollution control equipment than to force truckers to do the same or force millions of voting citizens to use public transportation, carpool, and/or ditch their gas-guzzling fancy sportscars, SUVs and "clunkers" for "greener" vehicles.
