World Wide Contractor and Const. Co. Balfour Beatty is not replacing any rail unless it shows a defect. Southern Pacific took up most of the jointed rail on tangent track in 1965-66 and replaced it with relay 113 to 132 lb. ribbon rail. Most of this rail was rolled by CFI from 1942 to 1954. Despite millions of ton miles, its in pretty good shape. Balforu-Beatty has renewed almost all of the main-line switches in Petaluma and Santa Rosa. All the switch ties on the mainline have also been replaced. Ballasting continues and #2503 and 9 cars will be dumping rock near Black Point tomorrow. The Ballast Regulator, Tamper and Liner are working between Ramal and Schelville. Mass Electric is doing work on the last three crossing signals including the new Cualfield Crossing in Petaluma and Highway 37. Work should wrap by mid-September.
