The unit was stenciled with MRLX, not MRL. MRLX is the reporting marks of Mid America Rail car leasing. MRLX has absolutely nothing to do with MRL.

Though MRLX is mainly known for having passenger cars, they do have a few locomotives, and this was at one time one of them.
