Sort of a random thought, but a way that I've managed to get some pretty obscure items in the past, is that eBay lets you set up a daily search (so you don't have to keep going in and searching yourself each day).

You put in the keywords that will pull up the item you're looking for and then if someone posts the item for sale, you get an email.

I managed to find some really rare postcards of my hometown that way (took me about two years to do it, but it was better than searching eBay every day for the two years).
