Our own 'Carol Voss" states the following regarding Train Festival-2009 and SP Daylight 4449 regarding its long journey home :
"We are flying to Minneapolis on Monday Oct. 12 and boarding the train there the next morning for departure, Tuesday the 13th. " I'm sure she will have a GREAT trip home and hope that she'll share some memoirs of her trip with us upon her return ...
As far as the many private car passengers onboard are concerned, I’m sure that the infamous “Queen of the Rails" and her long time steward “Carl” will keep all of them entertained with her “Letters from Carol” series, looking back on 40++ years of memories in their life. Those early, wonderful days together at “CAL-Berkeley”, their early ranching exploits in the Santa Clara Valley(particularly the stories of Carl’s 100 leased acres on Emado Road in Coyote,CA), those nostalgic walks at the Steinbeck Festival, romantic interludes at the “Bow & Bell”, wild parties at her old sorority house in Berkeley, Sunday dinners with her parents at Jack London Square, her detailed efforts at constructing the ATSF jigsaw puzzle “Thanks for the Memories”,
her reputation as one of the fastest “Cot Pickers” in San Jose, her annual support of the South County prune industry, her celebrated fishing talents at Monterey Bay, and her single-handed determination to re-open the former SP Monterey Branch into Seaside, amongst many other wonderful adventures in their lives..
Yes folks, the stories generated by that wonderful supporter of Winterail in those silver cars on that special steam-powered train as it journeys back West across this great land of ours, bound for the great State of Oregon and many wonderful memories of Train Festival—2009, will be absolutely priceless …
