I loved taking The Canadian on CP from Vancouver BC to Banff or Calgary - got to do that a half dozen times in the 70's and it was first class all the way. Wonderful domes and observation car, great food.

D&RGW ran a class act with the Zepher from SLC to Denver until they discontinued it in what? 83? Rocky Mountain Trout in the diner, great domes, clean service.

Had a great trip on the GN Empire Builder in 1965 from Seattle to Chicago - first experience with finger bowls - had no clue what they were. Rode the Pennsy's Buckeye from Chicago to Columbus and it was horrible! Rough ride, dirty coaches. Then rode another Pennsy train from Columbus to Washington DC - don't remember much of that trip.

In the 1950's and early 60's my dad and I would ride the Seattle-Portland pool trains. The GN train was all old equipment, not very good at all. NP's 407-408 were slick! Great food, clean and comfortable.

Rode the Olympian Hiawatha in the mid-50's from Seattle to Missoula. I remember the Superdome seats were very low to the window for an 8 year old! Had trouble seeing out.
