A New Mexico Rail Runner Express train passes by the last remaining semaphore in service on their line three miles south of Bernalillo, NM on September 12, 2009. These daily commuter trains run between Belen and Santa Fe, about 90 miles. BNSF sold this former Santa Fe line between Belen, NM and Trinidad, CO to the state of New Mexico in 2006. Currently, only Rail Runner Express trains and Amtrak's Southwest Chief use this line, however BNSF retains freight easement rights over the line. Over a dozen sets of semaphore signals currently remain in service between Springer and Las Vegas, NM, however they may be replaced in the near future.
