Metrolink Films Trains - What is the story?

What is the story with the Metrolink film trains that have been running around the system back in January, and now again this weekend?

Here's a shot I got of one near Sylmar.

What is the purpose of these? What are they shooting for? This one requested that his run into LA be as close to a normal run as possible (I'm assuming for training purposes, but don't know.)
