By monitoring the Fargo ND RR radio feed at RadioReference dot com I can report the following.
On BOTH the east and westbound trips the SP 4449 ran via Grand Forks and @#$%& Lake ND.
Unfortunately NO rare mileage run via the KO Subdivision either direction. DARN!!!.
I think it was likely easier to arrange crewing for the trip via the ALL Amtrak route west of the Twin Cities.
That is just my guess for the reason to avoid the shorter KO subdivision both directions.
