Tony-- Not sure.. There must have been "some" steel. Now remember, that structure was built by the SP (CP) in 1882. So who knows!!

Years ago, one of the Red Trains derailed inside the shed and knocked out a major support pillar, causing the entire shed to collapse onto the tracks.
Don't think that didn't cause a commuters headache !!
I've seen the photo that Vernon Sappers had of the incident. Unbelievable!
