SP 4-6-2 Class P-4 "Pacific" # 2422 emerges from Tunnel # 1 on Vic Shattock's live steam
1/2-inch scale basement railroad in Oakland, CA. (Circa-1938)..
The locomotive is passing under the 'Telltale' and about to cross a steel
girder bridge...
All of the crossties were hand-cut and hand laid. The rail was 110 lb SP Common Standard
"brass", specially rolled for Vic by Rollin J. Lobaugh, O-scale manufacturer.
Brass spikes, tie plates and rail joiners were used thruout the system.. All hand spiked.
Twelve turnouts including a double slip switch or "puzzle switch".. Fully operational
block signal system, electrically-operated turntable, 400-feet of track...
Everything scratchbuilt. All engines and cars equipped with fully automatic couplers...

This photo of # 2422 appeared on the front cover of "Model Railroad" magazine for
January- 1939... If any of you subscribe to "Narrow Gauge--Shortline Gazette"
magazine, there was a beautiful six-page photostory about Vic's layout in the
March-April-2007 issue (I believe)..

Cheers.
