Wilmington (Anahiem Blvd.) Wye Why

Here's a shot I caught recently of a PHL job swinging toward Long Beach on the Wilmington Wye.

In looking through old SP timetables, I saw that this point was called Wilmington (Anaheim Blvd.) by the SP. There was more on this in the article on Thenard in the SP Historical Magazine.

What I can't figure out though is why it was given this name. It is the junction that eventually that leads you to a line that crosses Anaheim Street, yes, but that doesn't seem like an important landmark (like Long Beach would be).

Any insights from those who know?

And lastly, did SP change its name to CP Wilmington Wye, or was that a post PHL change?
