Another great shot, Ryan. From a railfan perspective, it's also interesting to note the Norfolk Southern locomotive in the lashup, and the Union Pacific line on the Oregon side across the river in the background.

I've always enjoyed the railfan possibilities in the Columbia River Gorge, and have followed trains on both sides of the river. I've also had the pleasure of riding both of these routes: on the BNSF side aboard Amtrak's Empire Builder and behind the SP 4449, on the UP side aboard Amtrak's Pioneer, and aboard an Operation Lifesaver special that covered both routes (crossing the river at Wishram) and included a dome car view (the CZ coach Silver Lariat).

You're likely to see a wide range of motive power in the Gorge over time. Besides the usual BNSF and UP locomotives, Canadian Pacific and CIT Group (CEFX) power shows up regularly on UP trains coming down from the Eastport, Idaho gateway; Canadian National power, including former Wisconsin Central and Algoma Central units still in their old schemes, has shown up on BNSF trains; Montana Rail Link power is often seen on the BNSF side. Kansas City Southern power has also appeared on the BNSF, and CSX or NS power is likely to show up on both roads.

Amtrak usually has Genesis P42s on the Empire Builder, although GE P32BWHs have substituted from time to time. I've also seen BNSF units on the Builder helping out ailing Amtrak power.
At Hood River, Ore., the Mount Hood RR has two GP9s and a GP38; the MHRR excursion train includes a former Santa Fe/Holland America westours full-length dome.
