I'd really like to see the government attempt a new high-tech streetcar design. The Boeing Vertol disaster could have been avoided if a number of pilot cars had been built and thoroughly debugged under real world conditions over a period of years.

Just consider the quantum leap that the PCC design represented when compared to previous "standard" streetcars. Maybe we are really at the end of the road insofar as streetcar design goes, but the current generation, Bredas, Siemens et al, seem chunky and clunky to me.
