The reason I am pushing for light rail is that this technology would allow capital improvements very beneficial to SMART. Extending to Marin City would beef up the passenger count and help bring Marin on board with the idea of real rapid transit. Another key upgrade would be a viaduct over 2nd, 3rd and 4th Streets in San Rafael paralleling the 101 overpasses. Light rail facilitates incremental improvements - an easier sell if the costs can be spread out over time. In the interim you might not have a perfect system, but at least one that is up and running.
