All very nice to look back at what used to be, but as "nostalgia" it becomes a mstter of looking thru rose colored glasses. The year mentioned is 1937 and this country was still living with the effects of the Great Depression. Becoming the "Arsenal of Democracy", which helped bring an end to the depression, was still in the future and four years into the Roosevelt presidency, millions were still unemployed.

In four years, the United States would be drawn into a war which, worldwide, would claim 50 million lives. In 1937, there were tens of thousands of young Americans who, due to the war, would not live to see 1945.

Nostalgia for the thirties? As some have said, if one longs for the "good old days", they have a short memory.
