Global Locomotive

An article in the News Wire section of the Trains Magazine web site today reported on the formation of Global Locomotive. The company, formed by the former president of CEECO in Tacoma, is carrying on the rebuilding of White Pass & Yukon's GE shovelnose diesels.

The old locomotive/car shop at Western Junction, Wash., south of Olympia, is the site of the rebuilding work, as reported in a previous posting on this forum. The two WP&Y locomotives spotted in Tacoma are now on site here.

The facility, for those who are unfamiliar with its location, is at the junction of the former MILW/Chehalis Western line from Tacoma to Chehalis and the former Weyerhauser Lumber line from Olympia. The former Weyerhauser ROW, now a popular multi-use trail, passes directly by the east side of the shop complex.

This shop was, until 2006, the repair shop for American Orient Express before it became Grandluxe Rail Journeys and subsequently moved to Fort Lupton, Colo.
