There was a Fresno to Oakland Pier local that carried an RPO and lasted until about 1933 that stopped in Livermore and Pleasanton. My Dad used to meet it with the PO truck to pick up the mail in Livermore until its discontinuance. The Postmaster required a weapon for "show" in the PO truck, but he never thought it was loaded. Signors book has a few pics. A 2400, a coach or two and the RPO was about it. You can bet when the Depression bottomed out Tracy to niles was not passenger territory and the RPO carried the whole train. Livermore and Pleasanton were little more than East Bay cow-towns and the WP trains could easily fill in.
