Trans-Carribean Rail Barge

While perusing the November 2009 issue of Railway Age, I noticed a company named CG Railway has an advertisement (page 15) for rail barge service from Mobile Alabama to Coatzacoalcos, Mexico. They have some nice photographs of both of their barge rail facilities on their web site. The vessel description page has a slide show, while the Media page has links to still photos of both ports. In the photo "rail ferry loaded overview" note about 100 aluminum hopper cars neatly set in rows not on rails at the Mobile Alabama facility. The google maps satellite view of the same location must be old, because it looks like barge head was under construction. It is located off of State Docks Rd, south of Baybridge Rd, aka highway 16 & 90. They have 6 track wide loading and 8 track capacity on each barge. Does anyone know if CG had another location in Mobile or did they rebuild on the same site? The Coatzacoalcos facility is a bit trickier to find in satellite view. It is north of Rio Bravo bridge between port businesses and Mexican navy base. The photos named "train loading ferry" are the Coatzacoalcos facility.

Happy holidays and surfing.

Richard Elgenson, out.
