Chris Prevost of Vintage Aircraft Company @ Sonoma Valley Airport near Sears Point was able to finalize the acquisition and movement of a rare Grumman F3F-2 aircraft this month. The aircraft had been in Texas for a number of years. Very few of these in existence today.
Imagine an F4F Wildcat fighter with two wings and a fatter fuselage and you have the F3F. Pretty much the same landing gear and the same radial engine.
This one apparently has some history to it as it was a San Diego aircraft soon after being built and was assigned to a squadron that had 4 Medal of Honor recipients including Greg "Pappy" Boyington.
This is a complete aircraft, but suffered some storm damage. It is hoped to have her flying by this summer. Yet another reason to stop by the airport on the second Saturday of every month when most hangars are open for the public to view the many beautiful flying machines that call the airport home.
