Jack,
Looking forward to seeing the Hungerford photographs. Especially any of Hawaii. In Hungerford's book "Hawaiian Railroads" there is a photograph captioned “Oahu Railway #5 was still a steam dummy when photographed at Pearl City in 1904. This enclosed engine had been a tramway locomotive in San Francisco before it came to Honolulu". The photo is cerdited to the Hugh G. Boutell Collection. Are you framilar with the Boutell Collection or know if this photograph is held i the Hungerford Collection? I'm asking because the referenced photograph is not of OR&L No. 5 which was a 2-4-2 surburban type locomotive. We believe this photograph to be of OR&L No. 17, a home built locomotive that with one coach served the one mile Pearl City Peninsula branch. To date, we can prove that this "dummy" is not No. 5 but only have empirical evidence that it is No. 17.
